Learn Practical Wing Chun 👇🏻
The 4 Seeds of Wing Chun
Overall, there are 4 families of techniques which serves as key components of Wing Chun's defensive strategy. Wing Chun has 108 hand-techniques which can be categorized in these 4 families af techniques:
Tan Sau (dispersing/splitting)
Wu Sau (covering/guarding)
Fook Sau (subduing/ controlling)
Bong Sau (winging hand/arm)
The interpretation of each technique may vary, but the core principles remain consistent across most
Wing Chun lineages.
E.G. Sifu Wan focuses on the second hand so his techniques looks different, but follow the same principles
I don’t see techniques as right and wrong, but more or less ideal, depending on the context.
The quality of a technique should be measured, by how well...

Very insightful instruction! Look forward to future videos.
I trained some wing chun for a short time and I dropped it because it only ever teaches ONE punch ever. The fighting methodology is far too limited. Bruce Lee was right.
😂L.A.F.F = learn always fight forward
Great Video! I will put a link to your Video and Channel on mine. Good work. Best from Germany! Dom :)
HI Sifu Martin, this is RUclips-Gold! Great, inspiring Content as always, esp. the Aspect of the spiraling Force. My Sifu teaches similar Ideas. Keep up the good Work!
The punch move your body thats why we say PUNCH & Walk!
Very nice video. I would like to learn the raw aspect of martial arts instead of modern 'fitness' version of it. Glad to see some people are looking for that 'real' version.
I love this guy he's like a compound instructor opposed to an elementary instructor almost every time he makes a statement it has more than 1 meaning you can revisit the concept in your mind later and find additional truth always exceptional
I agree. His presentation is well thought out, brief, efficient. It is almost as if he trained it like WC. Good stuff!
Always nice to see your RUclips content. High quality technique.
True, it’s good content, but not high quality technique, doe. If you look at his hands, it seems like he never heard of “lock the thumb” or at least he didn’t practice it yet, because he’s not doing it subconsciously. Actually he is doing the exact opposite. ^^ When I first experienced it, it was a true game changer for me, tbh. Anyways, he is very good indeed, but everyone has room to improve, so does he.
@@mutsu-tv Every technique has a counter.
I don’t understand what that has to do with my comment, doe 😅
@@mutsu-tv Did you mean you can lock his thumb? That is what I mean with - every technique has a counter. If you mean, because his finger is apart? That is for quicker to get grip and control.
@@sanchidao first one: no Second one: kinda. And that explanation of yours is kinda meh. If you never heard of what i am talking about, it makes no sense to open that discussion through these comments. Anyways, best of luck for your journey and lets keep developing ourselves. =)
First Again.
Respect to my first instructor, Hawkins Cheung, trained by Yip Man..
“The most superior”. Yikes…
I see no evidence whatsoever that Wing Chun is such a great martial art as the Wing Chun enthusiasts always proclaim. They tend to not provide much evidence either.
That's because it's been commercialised, it's so far from it's roots. It's actually a free style system based on principles and body mechanics. Most confuse training exercise, drills etc with application. It's served me very well in a professional capacity when working in secure units, where boxing etc is inappropriate. Often find a lot of door men, security, prison guards in WC. I would go so far as to say 90% WC schools have no idea what they are doing.
@@UnjustVerdict no I can't supply evidence, but I'm not sure that I need too. I only have my own experience to go on, and that's enough for me. If you're sincerely curious maybe look at some of Alan Orrs WC. Or find a quality teacher and try for yourself.
@@orangcurl I did security in clubs for years. And later as a police officer on psych ward at Harlem Hospital NYC. It never failed me. Most people do not understand a sport from what happens in real situations.
Effective for what, in a cage, its pointless. In a corridor, wanting to stay in your feet.
When the cage allows for striking to the eyes throat and kicks to the knees to break or disable. Bare knuckles instead of gloves see how you go champ

I've trained in Wing Chun for almost twenty years now and having used it in real life can say it has saved my ass countless times
Better is the enemy of really good....those who seek quality will agree, those that can not be wrong will never know.
This is a brilliant and inspiring video Martin! Thank you so much!
A few top level mma / UFC fighters have already adopted Wing Chun into their training. It helped, but it didn't revolutionise their ability. The martial arts is a journey. There's many paths that are all striving for the same location. But no one path is right for every practicioner. Superior? Be careful with your words. I'd put good money on most boxers and wrestlers with 2+ years training getting past your tapping range. Also, I personally found while training Wing Chun that they have a weakness for strikes coming from the outside because most things are focused down the centre.
You obviously trained in Wing Chun for a short time.
@@prfu1222 So?
@@ynghuch Exactly my point. You didn't pay attention in class. And you didn't pay attention to the video. 🤡🤡🤡
@@prfu1222 watched the whole video and loved Wing Chun. But on my martial arts journey, I discovered that it's not the SUPERIOR art. None of them are, they're just pieces to help build a better fighter. 🖕🏼
@@ynghuch MMA guy is butthurt. Most of you MMA guys live in a Dana White fantasy world. FOH
My latest teacher, Jerry Yeung (from PVTGroup), who is a student of Wong Shun-Leung, also raised similar thoughts in his book: If you can constantly stay in your advantageous position and distance, why bother going to the ground or outside? WC is never about being on the ground or dealing with opponents at a long distance. First, know what is your advantageous area, and then direct/force/invite your opponent to play with you within that area so you can constantly remain the advantage, eventually, leading your opponent to follow your direction (You can do whatever you want as your opponent can only react, follow what you leading them to 獨行其事,屈敵從己)
Are you from Hong Kong?
WC has ground work. If you apply the principles of chi sau to the whole body we have something similar to BJJ.
Admittedly, I'm a proponent of muaythai. May I ask who were your muaythai teachers? How long and how intensively you trained muaythai?
Good question. I'd like to know too.
Well said, sifu. I'll be comming back for more training soon ;)
💪🏻
Thank you for this comprehensive lecture in my opinion experts lifers in martial arts eventually end up picking 1 of 3 arts Tai chi Brazilian jiu-jitsu or Wing Chun based on their personal preference these three arts have a no end value in self-improvement their depth goes beyond a man's lifetime
Such a unique and wise prespective
Appreciate that!
I'm with you but you realize people are going to challenge you now right?
😂😂 so true! He keeps getting it on his other videos. I always dominated with my wing chun. On the street and in sparring. So.I know with proper traing wing chun is really good. I'm 50 years old now, I still train for keeping myself fit. I do a Japanese martial art now and all the youngsters have trouble with when we spar. Haha. But it is just for keeping myself fit. I traing battujutsu now as I always wanted to learn katana techniques. Anyway, when fighting, I still use wing chun. It is simple and works.
Exactly this is true.. I'm practicing and learning wing chun under the great master samuel kwok.. This art is always very effective specially in short range and can be used perfectly for ground level too.. Also I'm practicing kali as a weapon art and I can see there are so many similarities between these two styles.. I'm from Sri Lanka..❤

I agree with that
That’s a mistake most practitioners do. You have to press foward and close the gap when you are a wing Chun practitioner. You can also use like a « spring move » to move foward and close the gap. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Very smart instruction. I think the actual literature on FOOK SAO, a crane Kung fu and northern mantis covering hand, also found in SNAKE, was selected for WING CHUN because its like walking a fox. A doggie paddle. 😎💯🙏awesome video!
Thank you
Pls keep making videos

Good Thing!
The only thing wing chun is good for is developing reaction speed, through touch drills. Aside from that it's pretty useless for self defense!
